Thunder Mountain Speedway - Center Lisle, New York

Whitney Point Exit off of route 81, West on Rt. 79 to Center Lisle!

May 15th, 2009
Thunder Mountain checkers to Jordan, Eicklor, Green, Ruggles, Brown, and “Ricky Bobby”.

Thunder Mountain Speedway played host to a packed house in the spectator area as well as the pit area, as fans and racers alike jammed the grounds, ready to witness an exciting night of racing action. The competitors would not disappoint as the racing action was fantastic throughout the evening with hotly contested events for all to see.

The Road Warrior division hit the speedway first for its’ feature event with Matt Lipka capturing the win, only to hand it over to first time winner Gary Brown in his Country Folks Diner
El Camino after Lipka failed post-race inspection.

The National Parts Peddler 600 Micro Sprint division yielded another new winner with Daryl Ruggles in his immaculate #48 car leading from start to finish. For visitor Ruggles who was visiting Thunder Mountain Speedway for his first time it was a dominating performance as he was able to withstand all challenges from second place finisher Nick Cooper in the #35N entry, and enjoy victory lane honors.

The Doug’s Speed Shop I.M.C.A. Modified division put on a splendid battle throughout their 20 lap feature with “The Barton Rocket” Tommy Eicklor aboard his familiar Wagner Logging 09’ Harris chassis winning in convincing fashion over “rookie” Mike Wilbur Sr., Chris Fleming, Mike Smith, and Binghamton’s Mike Stoddard. As Eicklor was interviewed in victory lane he was made aware of the motor claim that was made by a fellow competitor as a motor exchange would take place in the final process.

The Hunt’s Auto Service Modified Sportsman division produced a third different winner in three events with the “Speedsville Speedster” Kevin Jordan garnering first place honors in the 25 lap event. Pole sitter Jordan jumped to the early lead only to give up the top spot to Jim Larock on lap #2. Officials took the top spot away from Larock on the fourth lap caution period, because of an infraction of passing in the restricted “turtle” area for the lead on lap #2. The “turtle” area being on the infield areas coming off of turn #2 and turn #4. This would prove to be a costly error for Larock as he was unable to find the opening for another pass throughout the rest of the event. Jordan would bring his Hunt’s Tree Farm, All About Flying “double deuce” home for the victory over Larock, Candor’s “fast” Eddie White, Benny “The Blade” Bushaw, and “Mr. Wide Open” Jimmy Howard of Cortland, N.Y.

The Dog’s Trash Removal Hurricane Street Stocks were next on the agenda as 28 cars packed the starting line-up. “Battlin” Butch Green would bolt into the lead with his potent Hill’s Automotive #39. Chemung, N.Y. driver Rich Talada applied heavy pressure throughout the marquee 20 lap event as he searched high and low for an opening to make the pass on Green for the #1 spot. That opening never occurred as Green was sure to prevent it from happening and brought home this second win of the season at Thunder Mountain. Talada would finish solidly in second with “Rollin Thunder” Rich Green finishing third in a borrowed ride.

The Road Bandit division was dominated by “Ricky Bobby” Bobby Edwards driving the R.W. Lobdell Construction #81 Dodge Neon from its’ front row starting position to the lead and ultimately the win as he proved to be the class of the field in his first taste of Thunder Mountain victory lane in 2009.

This next Friday night will be a full six division night of racing, and will also be an opportunity for fans to showcase their “Best Dressed Pet”, as Thunder Mountain Speedway will award a pair of FREE passes to the owner of this nights’ “Best Dressed Pet”. A Demolition Derby has been added to the May 29th schedule with the 600 Micro Sprints having the night off to race in a NYMM event at Ransomville Speedway. This derby will award $500 to the winner (based on 12 entries). For any information call the new track phone number (607)227-9602. Thunder Mountain Speedway is located off interstate 81(exit 8 Whitney Point), then route 79 west 5 miles to Center Lisle, N.Y. and follow Hunt’s Corner Rd. ¼ mile.
