Thunder Mountain Results for July 18th

Gary Card Jr. and Ken Hammond brought the AutoWorks of Ithaca Sportsmen-Modified field to the green flag on Friday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle NY. Card took the early lead with Hammond following close behind until lap 10 when Jim LaRock slipped by for second place. Current championship point leader Eddie White followed LaRock past Hammond to move into the third spot. Four laps later white passed both Card and LaRock to take the lead. With five laps remaining LaRock got by Hammond for second . At the finish it was Ed White taking the win with LaRock finishing in second, P.J. Goodwin finished third with Card fourth and Kevin Jordan fifth.

With Tom Eiklor having suffered engine damage in his heat and Sean Lias’s mid-season run of bad luck continuing the Hunt’s Auto Service IMCA Modified feature presented a golden opportunity for the remaining drivers to take their first feature win of the season at the track. Eiklor picked up the ride in Don Reeves Jr.’s car for the feature and was forced to start at the back of the pack. Pole sitter Mike Stoddard took the early lead and held off Jerry Lobdell throughout the early stages of the race. On lap 9, Dave Burrows was able to pass Lobdell for second and set his sights on the leader. But, a tangle with Stoddard in turn two on the 14th sent Burrows to the pits with front end damage ending his night. This put Lobdell on Stoddard’s back bumper with Chris Fleming holding down the third spot. Fleming got past Lobdell for second when the caution came out for Stoddard putting Fleming in the lead. Fleming held off Lobdell for the final three laps and took his first career IMCA Modified feature win. Lobdell finished second with K.C. Cole third, Tyler Stoddard fourth and Mike Stoddard fifth.

The Marsh brothers led the Hunt’s Auto Service Hurricane Street Stocks to the drop of the green flag with Randy taking the early lead. His lead was short-lived as fifth starting John Cooper Jr., took the lead on the second lap. Ninth starting Earl Zimmer was on the move and by lap 6 had over taken Cooper for the top spot. But Cooper came right back and recaptured the lead four laps later. On lap 17 Randy Marsh slipped past Zimmer for second as the top five cars pulled away from the pack. At the finish it was John Cooper Jr., picking up his first win of the season with Randy Marsh taking a season high second place. Earl Zimmer crossed the line third with Don Russell Jr., fourth and Kurt Decker fifth. Austin Welch took the lead at the start of the Road Bandit main event. Championship point leader Nick Griest took over the lead on the fourth lap and went on to take the win. Ray Oakley second with Bobby Edwards third, Matt Tripp fourth and Wayne Ross fifth.

Jim Money started on the pole and lead every lap of the 4 Cylinder Super Stock feature event. Brent Miller finished second with Cyrus Homer third, Jerry Wilcox fourth and John Carter fifth. Stan Wayman had the Road Bandit feature event under control until Paul Lockwood slipped by with two laps remaining to take the win. Wayman finished second with Rick Frisco third, Nicky White fourth and Jessy Velez fifth. Ashley Jones took the lead from Dawn Gigliuto on the fifth lap of the Pussycats feature event. The race was halted with six laps completed when Gigliuto suffered a flat right front tire that dug into the track sending her car flipping. The race was red-flagged and ruled complete giving the win to Jones. Tammy Welch was second and Cammie Sack was third.
