Thunder Mountain Results for July 4th

Ed White of Candor NY wasted no time in moving from his fourth starting position to the lead in the AutoWorks of Ithaca Sportsmen-Modified feature event on the 4th of July at Thunder Mountain Speedway. On lap five White, using the high line through turns three and four, drove past his son Brian to take the lead in the 25 lap event. The current point leader appeared to have the race in control, but Jim LaRock was slowly working his way through the field, picking off cars one by one until he moved past Brian White for second place with four laps remaining. With LaRock using the bottom line around the track, Ed White moved to the inside groove. LaRock was unable to pass the one remaining car in front of him and settled second place with Ed White taking the win. P.J. Goodwin finished third with Brian White fourth and Greg Doust fifth.

Tom Eiklor continued his winning ways taking his fourth consecutive Hunt's Auto Service IMCA Modified feature win. Starting seventh in the 15 car starting line-up Eiklor had moved into second place on the sixth lap and set his sites on Chris Fleming. Two laps later, Eiklor got under Fleming in turn two and pulled into the lead. Eiklor pulled away from the pack in taking the win. Fleming finished second with Gary Roberts third, Eddie Sites fourth and K.C. Cole crossed the line in fifth.

The Hunt's Auto Service Hurricane Street Stock feature event had all the making's to be a good one and it didn't disappoint the packed house. Jerry Lobdell took the lead from Kevin Boynton on the second lap of the 20 lap event. On lap 5 Randy Marsh moved into third place to set up a challenge for the lead. Marsh moved into second place on the 8th lap.
By the halfway point, Scott Smith had charged into second and began to challenge Lobdell for the lead. With four laps to go Smith got into the back of Lobdell on the frontstretch and they both went spinning into the infield. Marsh got caught up in the melee and had to go pitside to replace his hood and change a flat tire. This put K.J. Yager in the lead with three to go. But, with two laps left, Don Russell Jr. drove past Yager to pick up his first career Thunder Mountain Speedway feature win. Nick Robinson finished third with Mike Morse fourth and John Cooper Jr., coming all the way from a 21st starting spot, crossed the line if fifth.
Current point leader Nick Griest drove past Dave Jenkins to take the lead and the win in the Road Bandit feature event. Jenkins held on to finish second with Gary Kinne third, Rich Gardner fourth and Dan Wood finished fifth.

D.J. Pender held off the persistent charges of Paul Lockwood to take his first career feature win in the Road Warrior feature event. Rick Frisco put on a late race charge to finish third with Joe Marshall fourth and Nicky White fifth.

After early race leader Chris Stockham lost a battle with a "yuke" tire in turn two, Mike Keppler crusied to the checkers in the 600c.c. Modified feature event.

Track Notes; The Independence Day Holiday brought out a big crowd for the fireworks display, both in the grandstands and in the pits. Over 90 cars checked in for the five regular divisions and 27 600 c.c. Modifieds arrived for their first event of the season. Some of the Hurricane Street Stocks were put in the unfamiliar position of having to qualify through a consi as 27 cars were entered in the division.
