Thunder Mountain Results June 6th
Brian White picked up his first win of the season in
the Autoworks of Ithaca Sportsmen feature event at
Thunder Mountain Speedway. Scott Conover took the
lead at the start of the 25 lap event. White pulled
into the lead on the sixth lap and never looked back
opening up nearly a full straightaway lead by the
time the checkers flew.
At the finish it was White taking the win, with Ed
White finishing second, Scott Conover third, Larry
HIllis fourth and Jim LaRock fifth.
Chris Fleming took the lead from Tyler Stoddard on
the second lap of the Hunt's Auto Service IMCA
Modified feature. By lap three Sean Lias, using a
back up car, had moved into second place. Fleming
broke coming off turn four on the tenth lap giving
the lead and the win to Lias.
It was the fifth win of the season for Lias. Dave
Barrows finished second with Jeremy Shaw third, Gary
Roberts fourth and Tom Eiklor fifth.
Mike Wilbur took his second Hunt's Auto Service
Hurricane Street Stock feature win of the season.
Wilbur took the lead from pole-sitter Mike Morse on
the second lap with John Cooper Jr. running second,
Gene Sharpsteen third and Bill Rampe fourth. On lap
six Kurt Decker moved into fourth place and by lap
ten had slipped by Cooper for second. Wilbur had
opened up a big lead until a caution on lap 15
bunched the field for a restart.
Decker was unable to make a pass in the last five
laps of the race giving Wilbur the win, with Decker
second. K.J. Yager finished third with Bill Rampe
fourth and Gene Sharpsteen fifth.
Jake Fowlston went right to the front and was able
to avoid the war of attrition that was raging behind
him to take the win in the Road Warrior feature. Ten
cars started the event and by lap ten there were
only three cars on the track. Cyrus Homer finished
second, with Jessy Velez third, Tommy Velez fourth
and D.J. Pender fifth.
Bobby Edwards was declared the winner in the Road
Bandit feature after post race tech inspection's
resulted in the disqualification of the first two
cars across the line. Matt Tripp was awarded second
with Austin Welch third, Wayne Ross fourth and Dave
Jenkins fifth.
The Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club was on hand with
Dr. Phil Claussen picking up the win in the Modified
division and Frank Blanchard taking the win in the
Sportsmen division.
Track Notes: Jerry Dashnau edged Austin Welch in the
three lap Reverse Race for the Road Bandits. Brian
Hartman barrel rolled his Road Warrior at the end of
his heat race off the front stretch wall ending his
night. Hartman provided the crowd with the
obligatory roof dance. The hot night resulted in a
number of drivers commenting about over heating
issues with their cars.
