Thunder Mountain Results April 25th

Don Hart Jr. of Bainbridge NY won the Autoworks of Ithaca Sportsmen feature on Friday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle NY. Hart started eighth and gradually moved through the pack before getting by pole sitter Brian White on a restart on lap 8 to take over third place. Don’s brother Rodney had capitalized on his front row starting position to take the lead through the early stages of the race. On the tenth lap of the race Rodney Hart was leading with Candor’s Ed White running in second and Don Hart Jr. in third. By lap 12 Hart had slipped by both White and Rodney to take the lead. At the finish is was Don Hart Jr. picking up the win with Rodney Hart finishing in second, Ed White crossed the line in third and Brian White and Kevin Jordan rounding out the top five.

The Hunt’s Auto Service of Ithaca Hurricane Street feature turned out to be a barnburner. Pole sitter Mike Wilbur took the early lead before a lap 2 caution for a spinning Steven Deinhardt brought out the caution.. Deinhardt was sent to the pits to repair some body damage due to the incident and the field was realigned. The defending track champion made it back onto the speedway without losing a lap and joined the field at the back of the pack. When the green flag dropped Wilbur maintained his lead but Deinhardt was on the move and by lap 8 had moved in to second place and was challenging Wilbur for the lead. Deinhardt took to the outside of the speedway coming off turn four and was charging to the lead when his left rear tire blew bringing out the caution.

Again Deinhardt headed pitside, this time to change the tire. He joined the field just before the green flag flew. On lap 14 Deinhardt worked his way past Buck Mills to move in to second place. Wilbur maintained an advantage despite Deinhardt’s challenges. On the last lap, again coming off turn 4, Deinhardt made a final run for the lead. But, as they crossed the line Wilbur had the slightest bit of a lead and took home the feature win with Deinhardt finishing second by a matter of inches. Buck Mills finished third with Derek Birdsall finishing fourth and Jason Bennett finishing fifth.

Sean Lias of Westfield PA made quick work of the Hunt’s Auto Service IMCA Modified division feature. Lias started fifth but passed Tom Eiklor on the second lap and cruised to nearly a half lap win over Jerry Lobdell. Tom Eiklor finished third with Mike Stoddard in fourth and Chris Fleming in fifth.

After just missing the opening night feature win Paul Lockwood came home the winner in the 15 lap Road Warrior main event. Lockwood led every lap of the race, holding off opening night feature winner Rick Frisco. Jake Fowlston finished third with Stan Wayman and Chris Brown rounding out the top five.

Ray Oakley and Jeff Scutt brought the Road Bandits to the green flag for their feature event. Oakley, favoring the high side of the speedway jumped out to the early lead. Third starting Bobby Edwards pulled into the number two spot by sticking to the bottom of the racing surface. Oakley was able to maintain momentum coming off the turns and hold onto the lead until a lap 9 restart when Edwards got the jump to take the lead. Opening night feature winner Nick Griest was behind the 81 of Edwards but couldn’t find a way to get by either the leader or Oakley. On lap 11 Griest slipped past Oakley for second. But with Edwards sticking to the bottom Griest wasn’t able to find a way by on the top side of the track and Edwards held on by just under a car length to win the feature. Griest finished second with Oakley third, John Hoover fourth and Scott Bowen fifth.
