Thunder Mountain Results April 20th
Defending
Autoworks of Ithaca Sportsmen track champion Rodney
Hart won the opening night feature at Thunder
Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle NY. Starting on
the pole, Hart dominated the 25 lap main event at
times opening nearly a full straightaway lead during
the race. Joey Colsten was able to maintain his hold
on second place throughout the event., with Larry
Hillis finishing third. Behind the leaders there was
a torrid battle for fourth place between Grant
Hilfiger, Don Hart Jr., and a hard charging Scott
Conover. It was Hilfiger at the line for fourth with
Conover crossing in fifth spot.
In the inaugural event for the new sanctioned IMCA
Modifieds, Sean Lias recovered from some heat race
difficulties to cruise to an easy win in the 20 main
event. Pole sitter Mike Stoddard took the lead at
the drop of the green with Brad Weaver and Josh
Sawyer battling for second. Lias moved quickly from
the back moving into the lead on the fifth lap.
While Lias checked out on the field, Gary Roberts
worked his way up through the pack and joined the
battle with Stoddard, Sawyer and Weaver. A lap 14
caution bunched the field and at the drop of the
green Lias again opened up a big lead while Jerry
Lobdell moved through the pack and into fourth
place. At the drop of the checkered in was Sean Lias
taking the win with Gary Roberts second, Jerry
Lobdell third, Mike Stoddard fourth, and Tom Eicklor
fifth.
The Hurricane Street Stock feature was brought to
the start with Buck Mills and Mike Morse in the
front row. Morse jumped out to the early lead with
Mills and Steven Deinhardt in tow. On lap 9
defending champion Deinhardt slipped by Mills to
take over second . Deinhardt kept the pressure on
Morse but was unable to make the pass. Then with two
laps to go he slipped by the fading Morse to take
the win. Charlie Gilbert finished third with Mike
Wilbur fourth and Buck Mills fifth.
Rick Frisco picked up the win in the most exciting
feature of the night in the Road Warriors event.
Frisco and Paul Lockwood raced side by side for the
duration of the race. Lockwood kept his El Camino on
the bottom of the track while Frisco worked the top
side. Harold Walburn finished third with Stan Wayman
fifth.
Nick Griest started on the pole and stayed on the
bottom of the speedway on route to the Bandit
feature win.
At the drop of the green Griest took the lead with
Jeff Scutt and John Hoover running second and third.
On lap five Dave Jenkins worked past a fading Scutt
and Hoover into second. Hoover was able to get by
Jenkins one lap later. At the finish it was Griest
taking the win with Hoover second, Jenkins third,
Chad Walters fourth and Mike Taylor fifth.
