Thunder Mountain Awards Banquet Recap
Thunder Mountain Speedway closed out their 2009 season on Saturday night with a fantastic evening of feasting and an awards presentation. Season champions and high point finishers were honored with photo plaques in all divisions, along with other contingency awards, as well.
The Center Lisle speedway owner, Dicin' Dick Stark, was very appreciative to all in attendance and spoke with the utmost sincerity in regards to the past, as well as, the upcoming season. A tentative outline of next season was announced, with plans for the 2nd Annual Seven Valley Motorsports Expo being set for April 3rd, 2010. This Expo, hosted at Cortland's JM McDonald Center, was a great success in it's maiden voyage this past March, and looks to be bigger and better for 2010. The opening test and tune shakedown is set to take place on April 9th, with the season lid lifter coming the following week. Starting time for next season's Friday night races are being moved to 7:30 PM, with hot laps coming at 6:45 PM. This will allow fans and racers an easier trip to get to the speedway following the Friday work day.
Other plans for the speedway included The Fight Night All Star Street Stock Series, World Products IMCA Empire Series, Buzzie Reutimann, and a new overall approach on the PR side of things at the track. The former voice of Thunder Mountain, "The Cardiac Kid" Nick Stark, will make his return to the track as the weekly announcer, as well as a role as the PR/Marketing Director of the speedway. Head flagger, Brandon Clapperton, resigned Saturday evening, wanting to further pursue his racing career in the dirt ranks. Sam Folk will take over the role of head flagger at the speedway next season.
All in all, it was a fun evening for everyone, and next year looks to be bigger and better than ever. Thank you to everyone!"

The weather at the Center Lisle oval was mediocre at best, but the racing on the night was action packed. No full moon was visible, but like the weather, some racers were in a foul mood.
The Doug's Speed Shop I.M.C.A. Modifieds hit the speedway first as twenty cars took the initial green flag. Rich McNeal Jr. jumped to the lead from his pole position and paced the field for the first nineteen laps staving off several attempts at the lead by Gary Roberts to maintain his hold on the number one spot until outsider Kevan Cook moved into the runner-up position on lap fifteen. The Constantia driver continued the assault on McNeal making several attempts to rattle the "rookie" into making a mistake, but the Copy Source #68 would withstand the challenge until the white flag lap, as Cook raced under him in turn two and cruised to the victory. McNeal finished a fine second, as Gary Roberts finished third, Jerry Lobdell Jr. fourth, and Mike Wilbur Sr. fifth.
The Road Bandits brought twenty starters to the starting line as Lanson Albanese captured the win in strong fashion as he passed leader Kenny Underwood on the twelfth lap, and took top honors for the third time this season at Thunder Mountain. Kenny Underwood raced home to second, Joe Fischette in the Venom Motorsports #08A in third, Nick Griest fourth, and Johnny "Rotten" Hoover fifth.
The Doug's Trash Removal Hurricane Street Stocks fielded eighteen starters with Rick Frisco jumping into the lead at the green flag. He survived four restarts in the first fifteen laps until the "Big Kahuna" Rich Talada moved into the lead on lap sixteen. Frisco held onto second for just one lap as battlin' Butch Green wrestled the runner-up spot away, and set his sights on Talada. The Kinetic Performance, Mojo Photos OH7 would not be denied the victory as Talada finished his strong effort for the win, as Green was second, Frisco third, Gene Sharpsteen fourth, and Darl Ellis Jr. in the Gold and Silver Expressions sponsored #5XJ in
